From Zermatt to Chamonix - Glacier trekking

An exciting experience for those who whish to discover this fantastic itinerary, one of the most famous alpine trek, joining two mythic towns in the history of alpinism. Our itinerary follows the original ski trail, along glaciers surrounded by the most spectacular peaks in the Swiss Alps. Accommodation is provided by typical mountain hut, for a real mountaineering experience.
The trip is on easy glacier terrain. Some crevasse crossing can become challenging or a short section of snow or ice may request the use of crampons.
Because of the altitude and the terrain, the technical level is slightly more demanding than for a classic hiking trip.
Participants will get trained to glacier travelling, rope management and basic use of crampons and ice axes.

Day 1 Group meeting at our hotel in Zermatt. Your guide will discuss the trip’s program with you and check out your equipment before dinner.
Day 2 Hike to the Schönbiel hut. A beautiful starting point, at the base of the impressive Matterhorn’s North Face.
Day 3 Starting along the Stockji glacier’s moraine we will climb to the Tête Blanche before traversing to the Bertol hut. An incredible journey where the views on Matterhorn, Dt blanche and Dt d’Hérens are absolutely stunning. Probably one of the most beautiful place in the Alps.
The Bertol hut is an incredible eagle nest perched on a rocky spire emerging from the glacier.
Day 4 Descent to the Arolla glacier, before hiking around the majestuous Mont Collon to the Col de l’Evêque. From the Col, an easy glacier flows to the Vignettes hut.
Day 5

One of the highlight of our trip, the traverse of the Pigne d’Arolla.
We leave the hut in the morning light and climb along an easy but crevassed glacier to the top of Pigne d’Arolla. The descent via the Serpentine follows an impressively crevassed glacier with great views on majestuous seracs and ice falls cascading down the side of the mountain. Overnight at the Dix Hut.

Day 6 Traverse to the next hut in Chanrion via the col de Cheilon and col des Roux. The hut is located in a natural reserve and we will probably have the chance to see some wildlife on our way out.
Day 7 Easy hike along the Mauvoisin lake, before traversing the col des Autannes and descending to the Pannossière hut. We have now escaped from the original Haute route treck that originally follows the southern side of the Grand Combin. Our itinerary avoids some tiring hiking in unstable moraine terrain and scree slopes. The views on the northern side of the Grand Combin are also much prettier.
Day 8 Traverse to the Col des Avouillons and at the foot of the North face of Petit Combin (a well known peak for most Verbier skiiers) we climb to the Col de l’Ane. Long descent to Bourg St Pierre and transfer to Champex for a comfortable night in a cosy hotel.
Day 9 An easy start with a cable car ride to la Breya. Hike to the Trient Hut on the edge of the Mont Blanc massif.
Day 10 Our final traverse to Chamonix by the col du Tour. Today you will have the chance to discover some of the most famous scenery in the Alps. The descent int the Chamonix Valley is an unforgettable moment, surrounded by prestigious peaks such as the Aiguille du Chardonnet, the Aiguille Verte and finally the Mont Blanc.
