| A 6 days trip for discovering the western side of the Berner Oberland. In that area the terrain is not as alpine as in the other section of the Oberland. The trip goes from les Diablerets to Leukerbad, well known for its spas. It is a beautiful and quiet area especially compared to the Haute Route or the other end of the Oberland, the views over the southern side of the Alps and its giants (Mont Blanc, Matterhorn) are really specacular. To make the logistic easier, we keep our starting and ending point on the same side of the valley.
This is an intermediate tour and requires a
good level of fitness. Participants must be good skiers able
to perform parallel turns while carrying a pack in variable
conditions: powder, hard spring snow, crud and everything in
between. You should have some previous ski touring experience |

|
| Day 1 |
Meeting in our B&B in Savièse, just above Sion in the Rhône valley, in the heart of the Swiss Alps, 2 hours away from Geneva by train.
Equipment check and team meeting in the afternoon.
To make the logistic easier, we start in Savièse and end in Leukerbad or Montana, both towns are on the same side of the range.
|
| Day 2 |
Drive into the Sanetsch valley.
A long but gentle climb to the Prarochet hut, on the edge of the Tsanfleuron glacier. You will certainly remember that sunset with the Mont Blanc in the far.
4-6 hours ascent and sorry, no descent |
| Day 3 |
Ski down from the hut to the Col de Sanetsch and then climb along the ridge of the Arete de L’Arpille before reaching our summit the Arpellistock (3035m). Descent from the Arpellistock to the Geltenhutte along the northern side which holds powder well until late in the season. Night in the charming Geleten Hütte.
6-8 hours and about 1000m ascent in total. |
| Day 4 |
A long day ahead of us for the ascent of the Wildhorn (3247m). The itinerary is really interesting, and the views over the Alps magnificent. We first have to go back to the ridge line, by a long traverse to the col du Brotzet. Then another traverse at the base of the west face of Wildhorn, a short couloir, and we reach the final plateau and the summit. Exciting descent to the Audannes hut, on the southern side of the Wildhorn.
8 hours - 1400m ascent in total and 900m descent.
|
| Day 5 |
By the Ténéhet glacier we reach the Schnidehorn (2937 m). Superb descent along the NE side to the Plan des Roses. Traverse to the Rawyl pass and the Wildstrubel hütte .
6-8 hours - 800m ascent and 600m descent
|
| Day 6 |
A short climb to the Galcier de la Plaine Morte. Traverse of the plateau (you will understand why the local named it the dead plain) to the Widstrubel (3243m).
Great descent to the Gemmi Col. Night in a small hotel, well deserved showers.
6 hours - and 1200m descent |
| Day 7 |
Our last day, and the most beautiful skiing in the area. An early start for the Daubenhorn (2974m). Descent along the southern side, great and endless skiing.
5 hours - 900m ascent in total and 1500m descent
Taxi to Savièse |
