| The Oberland is a fantastic play ground for ski touring. No long traverse but a very alpine atmosphere, with spectacular glaciers and some mixed climbing in crampons on the Mönch, Fiescherhorn and the Finsteraarhon ridges.
This is an intermediate tour and requires a good level of fitness. Participants must be good skiers able to perform parallel turns while carrying a pack in variable conditions: powder, hard spring snow, crud and everything in between. Basic mountaineering skills are required (use of crampons, ice axe, rope). Your guide will be happy to review these skills with you during the trip. |

| Day 1 |
Meeting in our hotel in Grindelwald. Equipment
check and team meeting in the afternoon. |
| Day 2 |
Morning train ride to the Jungfraujoch (11350 ft). This exciting journey will take us to the Kleine Scheidegg offering great views on the Eiger North face. From there the train reaches the Jungfraujoch by an incredible tunnel through the Eiger itself. From the train, easy glacier travel to the foot of the south ridge of Mönch (13450 ft). A great mixed climb with short section of good rock and an exposed snow ridge to the summit. Descent by the same ridge and short traverse to the Mönchjoch Hütte (11900 ft). |
| Day 3 |
Descent along the Ewigschneefeld before
ascending the western side of the Fiescherhorn (13300
ft). The last section to the col, is a steep 40° slope. Skis are on your pack, crampons on your feet for this challenging climb. From the summit an impressive descent to the Finsteraarhorn
Hütte (10000 ft) with some tricky route finding across giant crevasses. |
| Day 4 |
Finsteraarhorn (14000 ft), the best climb in the area. The first part of the ascent follows a steep glacier to the saddle at 12000 ft where we will leave our skis to continue our climb on crampons, an exciting semi technical mixed climb along the summit ridge. Return to the hut. |
| Day 5 |
Opposite from the hut, the impressive north
east wall of the Wannenhorn (12800 ft) is an invitation
to every ambitious skier. This will be our goal for the
day. Back to the Finster Hütte.
|
| Day 6 |
Traverse to the Galmilücke before an
unforgettable run into the Rhone Valley in Münster.
Travel back to Grindelwald. |
