Away from the classic itineraries the remote Val d’Anniviers is seldom presented as a destination for ski touring, although it offers a wonderful combination of alpine tours in an impressively beautiful environment with some of the finest runs in the Alps. We will be skiing at the foot of some of the giants of the Swiss Alps, the Weisshorn, the Dent Blanche and of course the Matterhorn.
This is a difficult tour and requires a very
good level of fitness. Participants must be good off-piste skiers with previous ski touring experience and a good level of fitness. Previous
experience of alpine climbing (cramponning - ice climbing)
is suitable.

| Day 1 |
Meeting in our hotel St Luc. This is when
you realise that you have signed up for something
different
where is St Luc
? A small village
overlooking the Rhône Valley, just above Sierre.
Equipment check and team meeting in the afternoon. |
| Day 2 |
We use the ski lifts to reach the Bella Tola.
Short traverse to the Meidenpass ( 9150 ft). Descent into
the Turtmann Tal 2400 ft below. Short climb to the Turtmann
Hütte (7900 ft). |
| Day 3 |
Depending on the conditdion, we will first climb the Barrhorn or the Brunegghorn and then traverse to the Turtmann Galcier for a last climb
to the Tracuit hut at 10620 ft. |
| Day 4 |
An early start for a long day. With a light
pack we will climb the Bishorn (13625 ft). Descent back
to Tracuit before traversing via the Col de Milon to our
next hut, the Arpittetaz hut (9140 ft). |
| Day 5 |
A challenging day ahead of us, we
start our climb on the impressive Moming glacier, travelling
roped up through impressive blue crevasses before reaching
the Blanc de Moming (12000ft). From the summit we will
follow the east ridge towards Zinalrothorn, an exposed
knife edge ridge, traversed on crampons, carrying our
skis before our final descent to the Mountet hut (9468
ft). The view in the Mountet area is really beautiful.
The hut is surrounded by giant peaks, all over 14000 ft,
cascading into impressive glaciers and rock buttresses. |
|
| Day 6 |
Traverse to Zermatt by the Col Durand (11279
ft), the last slope will require all our attention for
a short section of ice climbing (500 ft at 45°). Beautiful
run to the Schönbiel hut (8838 ft). Schönbiel
is also offering one of the greatest view in the Alps
: the North Face of Matterhorn is right there as well
as the Dent d'Hérens and the cascading Stockji
Glacier, the end of the classic Chamonix Zermatt traverse. |
| Day 7 |
By the Stockji Glacier, climb to the Col
d'Hérens (11348 ft) and Tête Blanche for our final run down the
Ferpècle Glacier to les Haudères (4870 ft).
This last day will be the cherry on the cake, beautiful
skiing at the end of a very unique and special ski touring
experience. |
